Peter Lehmann
Margaret Barossa Sémillon
See previous notes - this wonderful old Semillon keeps getting better and better. Mid Lemon in colour. Aromas of Lanolin, beeswax, wet hay, lemongrass and toast. 0n the palate a soapy texture amongst the citrus and honey notes with refreshing bright acidity. Tastes much younger than 15 years and will probably still be giving pleasure on its 20th birthday but sadly for me this is my last bottle. Totally unoaked demonstrating how good Semillon puts on weight with age and doesn’t need oak unless you want to drink it young which misses the point as Murray Tyrell used to often say. A real treat to drink this wine - the following day the citrus was riper with notes of mandarin. Stunning.

Oct 18th, 2020Mid plus Lemon in colour. Aromas of wet hay, nuts, beeswax, Lemon and toast. On palate waxy, lanolin texture with honeyed notes developing. The Hunter Valley is generally considered the home of Semillon in Australia and produces world class age worthy whites but this Trophy winning Barossa Semillon is right up there. Differs somewhat to the Hunter by being a more fruit driven style.

Mar 8th, 2020Citrus and Beeswax aromas getting honeyed nuances at 14 years. Fuller on the palate raising it to medium bodied but still lively. Different to old Hunter Valley Semillon. A marvellous drink showing the longevity of Semillon and another multi trophy winner on the Australian Show Circuit.

Jul 11th, 2019Great wine. This proves that the Hunter Valley is not the only place in Australia for great Semillon. Mid gold in colour. Notes of bees wax, lanolin, and hay. Still lemony notes on palate without the strident acid of a few years ago. A delicious example of aged Barossa Semillon which will go on for longer yet. 11.5%Alc. 2005 vintage.
