First wine at first visit at the magnificent estate in Vertus where Dominique Person and his wife discussed their champagne and wine-making philosophy in a stylish impressive tasting room. His Le Clos Des Belvals from 2006 (600€!!) is farmed biodynamically with the ambition of rivaling the likes of Clos de Mesnil. This saigne rosé was fruity but lacked a bit of freshness and acidity.

Large complex nose of red citrus, bee-hive, bees-wax, and white flowers; mouth-filling mousse with everything from the nose plus high acids and a long nuthoney finish. This 14 yr-old wine has likely reached its peak as another bottle from same case was a bit over the hill.
