Switching lanes, and changing gears with this.
Nose provides a heavy dose of vanillin and brambly dark fruits. Mid palette displays a sweetness and earth overtones. Saddle leather, cardamom, cloves, vanilla and spice box notes are also very prominent. Tannins are still not fully resolved, but, as a result, they help to balance what is a muscular and well structured Shiraz. My only adjustment proposal would be to dial-back on the oak treatment. Otherwise, this is outstanding. I gave this 2hrs of legroom, but upon reflection, more may have helped.

Allowed this to breathe for over an hour. Huge nose of black cherries and bitter dark chocolate, along with substantial barrel toast.

On the palette, the wine is showing its age, although the tannins are still prominent. Fruit is forward and aggressive. Flavors are consistent with the nose - no peppery nuisances though...

I still have many Aussie fruit bombs from my early days. My palette has evolved so much that it requires a whole different mindset to appreciate them 😕

2001. Super. Grande finesse et gras en bouche. Encore potentiel

This is still a little hot. It's amazing that this is already 15 years old. I suspect it will still get better, and this rating reflects where it is now. Unmistakably Australian shiraz, oaky, full bodied, tannic.

I always enjoy this wine. Really nice balance, fruit, Finnish with integrated tannins. I think could go quite a bit longer, 10 plus years. Thank you Kurt Larson of Badger Liquor.

Nice nose, lots of black fruit, almost a burnt taste on the palate, tar, bitter notes, medium body, medium tannin. Good but I think I prefer a bit more red fruit
