We finally had the chance to clink glasses ๐Ÿฅ‚ to celebrate our D6 results and completion of WSET Diploma! ย ๐Ÿฅณ

We decided to pop this bottle of 2009 Penfolds โ€œGrangeโ€ that weโ€™ve been holding onto for some timeโ€ฆ โฐ

Itโ€™s a 98% Shiraz and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon blend ๐Ÿ‡ made with grapes hailing from vineyards of Barossa Valley (primarily), McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Magill Estate, all situated in South Australia. ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

It had a medium garnet hue ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ with medium (+) intensity of layered aromas ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿป and flavors ๐Ÿ‘„ including plush and concentrated notes of red and black cherry, cassis, boysenberry, dried fig, blueberry, violet, cocoa nibs, mocha, cedar, dill, vanilla, nutmeg, anise seed, clove, licorice, mint, forest floor, tobacco, leather, peppercorn, and meat. ๐Ÿ‘€

On the palate, it was dry with medium acidity, a lusciously full body, medium (+) velvety tannins, high alcohol (14.5% ABV) and a long finish. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

It was a spectacular wine, ripe for the occasion.ย  Cheers!

Penfolds 2014 release tasting. Dark magenta red, intense nose of chocolate and plum but not hugely complex. Matching palate, surprisingly approachable and balanced now. No doubt it will live long but a great drink now. Wine of the tasting but not a show stopper and no St Henri 2010 to compare to. Not as memorable as the 2006 and 2008 Granges from last year and definitely not worth $785.
