Quite dense crimson in colour for a cooler year for Grange. Comments as previous on Delectable. This is my last bottle of an original 6. Herbal leafy notes. Like the recently tasted 2002 Bin 389, this is on the plateau but won’t improve. Shows how Penfolds can produce very good wines in lesser years because of their vast vineyard resources. The next day the wine had a stewed fruit (plum) character. Low acid and totally resolved tannins. Still with that herbal savoury note. Delectable mentions Cabernet Sauvignon in the description but it is usually only a few percent. Although in this vintage it is an unusually high 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 90% Shiraz.
