Penfolds
Bin 169 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon
One of my favorite wines of all time. Cracked it open for my dad's 70th. Very nice nose, but the body of the wine is round but with such depth you feel like you picked a cab grape off the terra rosa soil and ate it!

Jan 27th, 2018Wonderful spicy and fruity nose with some eucalyptus notes. Fruity palate - quite restrained with some blackberry tones coming through - rich in flavor.

750ml
Tasting from 2 bottles, same event.
Penfold's first ever vintage of this was 2008.
She's a DIVA. No doubt about it. This is going to be the most intense wine of the night by a long shot. Incredibly dense, concentrated, ripe! Not pruney. Balanced. Incredible wine from Peter Gago!

Deep Ruby , narrow ruby pink rim . Mint , cassis , blackberry , eucalyptus. On the palate lots of dark cassis , spiced blackberry, dark cherry . High quite gritty tannin , balanced acidity . Medium length , chocolate tinged finish . This is quite austere and closed at present in comparison to the other wines in this line up , the tannins need will need more time than the Bin 389 to round out . This is also less juicy with drier tannin than the Bin 389. With more time in the glass this started to show a more nuanced , mineral and tobacco side to it . This improve over a further 10 -12 years or so and last well a further 10

Aug 30th, 2024Dark red color. Intense nose of blackberry, dry plum, menthol, herbs. Has some freshness and depth at the opening. Develops into cherry, tobacco, vanilla, coffee and spices. The attack is very round, tannins are velvety the finish is more robust but bounces back some dark fruits. It feels like it is still young a could be even more enjoyable in the years to come. Outstanding Cabernet with power race but also subtlety and finesse
