Penfolds
Bin 150 Marananga Barossa Valley Shiraz
The first vintage of Bin 150 was 2008 so this 2010 was probably the best to that point. Very dark Ruby in colour - impenetrable. The nose has blood plum and blackberry with mocha and cocoa aromas. The palate is rich, dense and full bodied. Opulent with blackberry and dark chocolate. Built to last for decades. A very Barossa Penfolds Shiraz.

Sep 12th, 2024A rich dark crimson in colour. A smoky creosote mocha aroma - plenty of charred oak. Sweet black fruits on the full bodied palate with blackberry and black cherry. A very Penfolds Barossa red. 2008 is the first vintage Penfolds made of the Bin 150. Marananga being a sub district of the Barossa and a noted source of old vine fruit. Typically, this is a pup, at 13 years of age and will cruise to 2030 and probably beyond.

Jul 15th, 2021Aromas of dark chocolate, black cherry and mocha. Very much like a Penfolds Barossa Shiraz. A rich full bodied red wine with some pruney notes. Some Liquorice/aniseed and bitterness which is a nice counterpoint to the rich fruit. Oak is there but more in balance with the fruit after 9 years of age. I really enjoyed this wine. No wonder Penfolds are killing it in China with Wines like this.

1 person found it helpfulJul 11th, 2018When you think of Shiraz you think of Australia, when you think of Australia you think of the Barossa Valley, and when you think of Barossa Valley Shiraz you immediately think of Penfolds. This silver award winning Bin 150 is a perfect testament to their “House Style “ wine making philosophy. Rich, intense, balanced and full bodied with tastes of black currant, clove and sweet dark chocolate this is a smooth winner that will not let you down. Cheers 🍷

Palate has ripe fruits of; blackberries, black plum, raspberries strawberries, dark cherries come out on the longer finish, leather, dry stems, crush dry dock powder, warm spice-box & black licorice. M+ sticky tannins, lifting spices with good acidity. Really nice but I wouldn't open this until 2029. Photos of the old bins and their old branded smokestack above the cellars.

Apr 19th, 2017This was the wine of the Penfold's tasting. It's softer and elegant over the palate and reveals layers and layers of black & blue fruits, expresso, soft minerals, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and on and on. Even better in 5 years and beyond. The Mamba decanter. Just $750 Australian. Looking for to the full tour and vintage tasting at Penfolds Magill back near Adelaide.

Apr 4th, 2017This really sung when tasting through the current release of penfolds wines. Classy oak and lovely fruit all clearly at play. Spiced plums, bacon bones, mahaongy, vanilla and some florals in the mix. There's a fine latticework like woven tannin profile and some lively acid... Real good

Dec 12th, 2016A big full bodied wine by any measure. Lots of lush fruit and lots of oak. Supple tannins. Went well with Beef Casserole but probably more a winter wine. 17+.
