After the 08' Dom incident. Broke a two months dry streak with this. Not out choice, but by a friend's well-intended but alas ill-fated decision at a restaurant. Arghhh! Another bottle cursed by the weather here. At this point, I think I've become an expert in detecting slightly heat damaged red wines. No matter the variety, the M.O. is the same - fruit aromas that's starting to prune and often accompanied by tobacco notes. Fruit is often present in the palate (fresh even at times), but the wine presents few other notes. Tannins always appear a little harsh, even on typically lighter extract wines. In short, every red wine starts to taste the same. Frustrating.

Very nice GSM blend. Rich and dark in the glass, needs a little air and then plenty of classic Shiraz flavours with great fruit influence from the Grenache and smokey dark notes from the Mataro. Some smooth tannins make this approachable but it is a bold and powerful wine. Penfolds rarely disappoint but some of the bins are overpriced in my opinion. This one seems about right in terms of QPR.
