One of my favorite wineries when I lived on the Central Coast. Purple red, moderate pigment extraction, excellent clarity for a red. Black olive and raspberry aromas, blackberry and olive flavors with a hint of eucalyptus. Nice undercurrent of lightly chewy tannins. Balanced and tasty “old school” Zin. Boysenberry flavor notes emerge after 45 minutes, tannins remain inoffensive but not fully resolved - polymerized or oxidized. Would this wine improve with decanting? 24 hours later, mouthfeel is rounded, black plum flavors have pushed to the forefront. Decant 3-6 hours and see for yourself. Nice Zin, great value!

Prior notes apply (especially the comment about a beach house). I don’t understand why so many Zin makers have gotten away from this incredibly food-friendly style, which used to be the norm in the 80s and early 90s.

First off, wine just tastes better when you’re at a beach house right on the damn ocean. OK, now that that’s out of the way, this cheap Zin is really nice. Focused, zingy nose of blackberry/boysenberry fruit, together with dark baking spices. Tangy and concentrated, it’s not complex but is a great burgers-on-the-grill wine. Get a bunch.

Small, family owned winery nestled in the Santa Lucia Mountains just 6 miles west of Paso Robles and 14 miles from the Ocean. Dark red almost with dark fruit aromas with aromatic spice. On the palate black cherry and plum with vanilla and spicy notes, fine tannins on medium finish ending with chewy leather tones.

Raspberry jam, licorice, slightly herbaceous, blackberry, black cherry, plum, black pepper, all spice, toasty nuts, unsweetened cherry syrup, dried prune, raisin, with smoky note at the end. Like eating raisin. Med plus body, med to med plus tannin. Nose is quite complex but fall short on the palate.

Raspberry and black fruit nose with forest and chocolate notes. Raspberry, boysenberry palate with hints of pepper, spices and toasty oak. Long finish dominated by lingering bright cherry.

It's just like you fell off a building into a pickup truck full of jam!
