Deep, inky Ruby with a pronounced bouquet of violet, cassis, vanilla, blackberry, black cherry, graphite, cedar, dried tobacco leaf, boysenberry. Long finish. It’s a bit hot at the moment - the alcohol is noticeable but will calm down with another year in bottle. It’s still a baby but hard to resist

Deep violets. Tastes purple. Lavender. Wonderful flowered bouquet. Very comfortable. Better as it opened. 2010.

The 97 was on its way down a gentle decline. I was expecting more from this 97. The fruit was gone., not as lush and decadent as the one I had enjoyed 7 years ago.

After the Paul Hobbs Pinot the other night, decided to go with the Cab, Hyde Vineyard 2002. Excellent choice. Just cannot go wrong with any Hobbs wine. Just a shame he had to discontinue the Michael Black Merlot.

Back when I tasted the 2006 on release this was my favorite of the Cabs that year from PH. Incredibly lush and balance, it still is very youthful with pure, fresh and structured black and red fruits, campfire notes and toast. This is drinking extremely, and has another 10 years easy to go.

2002 by Paul Hobbs is unbeatable, maybe his best class of Cabernets, though in a few years I am sure 2007 will be a staunch competitor. Red and purple color, the nose is a little funky, but the palate is fantastic with bright red fruits like cherry and raspberry, a touch of dusty mocha, the palate is plenty young, easily another 5-7 years here. Bright acidity and silky tannins. Shows the Carneros cool climate in spades.

Ruby to dark red in color. The nose is very pronounced with loam, black cherry, licorice, violets and cracked cacao bar. The palate is full bodied and impeccably balanced. Dense with ripe, sweet tannin this finishes really long. The cooler Carneros location of the Hyde vyd adds freshness on the finish.

A favorite wine ever, for PH. Too bad the vineyard is finally aging beyond its ability to show cool climate cab at its absolute best.
