Fifth of our seven year vertical tonight....Scratch that the 2014 came out too.

Deep ruby red. Lovely nose with floral spices, blackberries, aniseed and graphite. Medium plus tannins (7.5/10) a bit more than the previous vintages. Medium plus to full bodied. Notes of gravel, dark baking spices and black bramble berries. Long and lingering finish, a touch dry too. Drink till 2025.

A bit hazy, cloudy and dark ruby red. Thick baking cocoa on the nose with a touch porty, tight black cherries, and raspberries. Strong acidity with medium plus tannins (6.5/10) and full bodied. Seemed a bit disjointed even with a 2 hour decant. Layered palate with plums, cedar, a bit of animal notes like leather, leaves, a touch earthy and dark cherries too. Long finish. Might be going through a dumb phase and need some time. Drink till 2023.

This is not a new world wine. The nose on this wine is absolutely huge but too much barnyard for my tastes. The palate is also huge but more subtle than the nose. I haven't had many high end Right Bank wines but this is what I imagine they taste like.

Very good but a little lighter than I like.
If you prefer a Pinot over a Cab you'd most likely enjoy this

A Napa Valley winery that creates "Old World" merlot. Many American wine snobs think of this grape as a 2nd class variety, but in France, some of the most expensive wines in the world are 100% merlot. Before it opened up, the fruit was sweet. As the glass matured, a bouquet of dark cherry syrup erupted on my taste buds. Definitely unlike any merlot I've had before. Not cheap, but worth trying. Needs more bottle aging to meet its full potential. Cheers!
