Pago Lencia
Reserva Toro Red Blend
NOSE: yeast, leafy herbs, cocoa. All pretty restrained.
TASTE: mild earthy barnyard European quality (I always think Italian wine with this taste, though this isn’t Italian), red fruit. A little thin. Tobacco and savoury herbs (dried oregano?) finish. Pretty decent for $8!
EDIT: some darker fruit like cassis and blackberry came out the next day - much improved! Raising score from 86 to 88. Definitely going to try this again with a long decant.

Late Lunch with a mushroom pizza. Pairs fairly well… this wine needs air and would do well if decanted….

May 2nd, 2022Better after decanting, but pretty phenomenal for the price even early on. Cherry, plum, leather and a little bit of smoke with grippy tannins and slight acidity. Thinner than I was expecting, but my guess is that in a blind tasting, no one would believe that this bottle was $6.99!

Oct 28th, 2021Definitely needed to breathe. Still strong on the palate with minerality and tannins.
