About six months ago I thought I opened this but it ended up being the 2016 True Vineyard cab. Whoops (silver lining was that it was absolutely spectacular). I’ve not had their Immigrant before so this is my first experience with it.

Right off the bat, this has a more fragrant and mineral/savory mix compared to the True cab. Beautiful royal purple in the glass. Day one sported a slightly restrained aromatic profile whereas day two showed this in full bloom…roasted blackberries, ripe blueberries, baking spices, cedar, and plenty of dark potpourri. Surprisingly tannic on day one, it was still quite compact on day two. Mid palate here is the star…great weight, balance of ripe dark fruits and savory (cedar, mocha) notes.

If opening now, maybe give it 2-3hrs in the decanter.

Beautiful floral fruits, light dark spice, ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, blueberries, hints of raspberries, black licorice, dark rich soil, dark spice, warm toast, dry top soil, dark rich turned earth and fresh blue florals with violets.

The body is medium full. The tannins round and extremely soft tannins (perhaps, again, due to the length of time it was exposed to air or not properly sealed). It’s juicy, ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, blueberries, hints of raspberries, black licorice, dark rich soil, dark spice, warm, limestone minerals, toast, dry top soil, dark rich turned earth, fresh blue florals with violets. The acidity like rainfall. The finish is ripe, round, well balanced and delicious.

Photos of, their Zinfandel vineyard as viewed from the deck of their tasting room, soil composition around the Estate, their barrel room and their sloping hillside vines towards the backend of their property.

I got to see this wine sell for over $1,000 at a wine auction last week so I am excited to get to taste it. Well done.

For a young wine this Cabernet was spectacular. Rush dark fruit seamlessly blended with tannins and oak. Amazing balance. Resist and save this wine in your cellar.
