I am a big fan of David Swift Phinney wines. In 1998 David founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. Aged 10 mos in French oak, 42% new, Ruby with complex aromas of fresh fruits, floral and herb spice, nice mouthfeel. On the palate flavors of raspberry and cherry with cacao and hints of pepper spice. Rich full chewy tannins, well balanced on long finish ending with fruit and earthy spice.

Dark ruby. Vanilla, black cherry, and heat (15.2% ABV) on the nose. Full-bodied palate gives fake oak vanilla and black cherry (backed by 15.2% ABV) with medium minus acidity and nearly no tannins. Okay, so this is a Pinot for the Orin Swift fans — dark fruit, low acidity, no tannins, and way too much (15.2% ABV) heat — that’s definitely not a dinner wine. If that’s your style, you should enjoy this. If you’re more a fan of PN from, say, Burgundy, Willamette, Russian River, Santa Maria, Santa Lucia, Central Otago, Tasmania, or any place known for more conventional PN, you might want to look elsewhere. Drink now.

I just love everything David Swift Phinney produces. In 1998 David founded Orin Swift Cellars; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. Aged for 10 mos in French oak (30%new), Ruby with complex aromas of fresh fruits, floral and spice. On the palate flavors of fresh raspberry and cherry with cacao and hints of pepper spice. Rich full tannins, lingering ending with fresh fruit, well balanced with fruit, spice and acidity. Nice!

The slander is really good, it’s very unconventional but at the same time it’s not. Bold cherry fruit but also light with a clean finish. Beautiful on the nose with a bouquet of cherry and red fruit. Red fruit on the palette with a slight hint of oak. It’s a pleasant wine that will age well for close to a decade. I recommend trying it, I would purchase it again.

Call it what you want but Orin’s sweet spot is not Pinot - 16% and lots of cherry cough syrup. Probably just as effective as NyQuil... 💤
