Being on the same level like the 2006 & 2007, the first sip already put a spell on me. A kaleidoscop of myriad flavors, red and black fruit, fig, mild liquorice, iron, a huge finish. A wonderful expression of "Vigna Rionda" and what a truly classic & classy barolo is all about.

The aroma has a such a powerfully sculpted personality that the structure seems not sufficient to support it. It is also highly controlled and contained, every detail is clear and well-defined, just like many of the greatest wines in Piedmont, Burgundy and Bordeaux. Just lacks the last degree of spontaneous volatility that defines the magic in wine.

For me the second WOTN was the Oddero Rionda Riserva 07. The youngest one in the whole line up. Incredibly perfumed, with balsamic and female notes combined. Incense, road tar, mild licorice, pine cone and dark fruit. The tannic backbone is very present but yet very 2007: Soft and round. A kaleidoscope of Nebbiolo flavors. Vigna Rionda loud and clear.
