A big ripe Shiraz blend from Drew Noon MW. Notes of prune and oaky scents but the latter just enough to match the ripe fruit. Also McBarens Plum Cake Pipe tobacco. Rich and intense on the palate covering the 15.5% ABV. A winter wine which you can’t help but love - brilliant with slow cooked lamb shanks. 38% Grenache 50% Shiraz 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Graciano.

Aromas of cherry leather and dried fruit followed by a full bodied palate showing sweet ripe fruit. Looking back through my written notes I always seem to drink this hugely flavoursome Wine (15.5% Alcohol) on the coldest night of the year! Usually a Grenache dominant blend but in 2008 the blend from Drew Noon MW was 50% Shiraz; 38% Grenache; 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Graciano. As an experiment half the bottles had a cork; the other half a screw cap. Noon concluded some years later that the screw cap would go through to 2025 whereas the cork through to 2020.

I had the 2008 Eclipse. Made by Drew Noon MW this wine is no shrinking violet. Masses of flavour - raspberry notes to the fore. 15.5% alcohol a bit hot but a good wine for a cold mid winters night in Toowoomba. 17. Tasted another on 17th July 2015 on a very cold night. Similar tasting notes to a year ago. Snowed in Stanthorpe Qld today. Yes, Sunny Queensland!! The perfect wine for tonight.

On the nose, baked & slightly liqueured fruits of; lots of blue fruits, plum, black raspberries, raspberries, underbrush, saline, violets, and dry brown top soil. On the palate, concentrated blue fruits of; boysenberries, blueberries, olallieberries. Stewed plums, black raspberries & raspberries. They are in a liqueured syrupy state. The tannins are silty. Wild berry cola/licorice, underbrush, touch of vanilla & caramel, loamy dry soils, steep fruit tea, dry stones, liquid violets & the acidity pours over the palate. The rich, thick, fruity finish doesn't stop. It's drinking very nicely but likely peaked a year ago. However, still a nice example of how well his wines age. Photo tour of our April visit to Noon Winery. Winery, estate vines, open top fermenter and Drew Noon pouring our tasting. He is a very down to earth/salt of the earth guy. Thanks again for all the time you gave to us. @ Gary Danko with Filet and chocolate soufflé.

Drew completing a punchdown before touring his vineyards. His Eclipse is; 90% Grenache, 7% Graciano & 3% Shiraz. On the nose, light intensity red fruits, beautiful florals and a bit of black cherry cola. The mouthfeel starts juicy ripe fruits with dry M+ tarry tannins following. Fruits are; blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, plum & dry cranberries, soft leather, powdery crushed rocks, understated spices of nutmeg & clove, black cherry cola, dry red florals and a nice fruit finish with dark sticky tannins. Thanks Drew for sharing your time & knowledge.

Needed about two hours in a decanter but once it opened up rich and decadent.
