Muskateller is an old variety, and something of a rarity. Plantings of this ancient grape account for little than 1% of Austria's overall annual production. Why should this be? If found the Nikolaihof Gelber Muskateller 2012 to be a delightful, expressive white, offering up profusion of orange blossom, mint, sweet marjoram, and nutmeg. It bears some resemblance to Muscat on the palate, with perhaps more pronounced minerality. Round and silky, it glides on to a lengthy finish trussed in spring herbs. Sample
