2016 vintage. Dirk Niepoort's answer to Burgundy and it actually has a Pinot Noir like colour and mouthfeel. This is a very unusual Douro from very old vines. Delicate nose with sour cherries , pomegranate and flowers. It is all about finesse and subtlety. Very long. Delicious and expensive (80 euros), but if you see the prices of Portuguese high end wines these days it almost seems a bargain.

Nieeports attempt at Burgundy from a little side valley in the Duoro. On the nose some cherry, oak, and medicinal aromas. Seems to be a metallic element as well. Palette lacks acidity and freshness which ultimately makes the wine more interesting to taste than it is fun to drink.
