Dark ruby red color, some purple edges, with aromas of dark fruits and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry with vanilla, cedar and cinnamon spice. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with fruit, cedar and spice.

Not your father’s Pinotage. Deep blackish red with color fully to the rim. Abundant nose of cocoa and blackberry compote. Full bodied palate echoes the nose with juicy medium plus acidity and moderate (medium minus) tannins. Finish is moderate to long and is easily recalled with a deep inhale. Pinotage has finally hit its stride and this is an excellent example of what the variety can be. Drink now through 2026.

Had an older vintage and thought this was an Interesting wine, aged for 12 months in Hungarian oak (60% new), aromas of dark fruits, floral & spice spice. Full body with sweet blackberry flavors, pepper spice and toasty oak notes. Vivid acidity, firm but approachable tannins, lingering finish ending with notes of vanilla spice and an earthy touch.

I'm a little sad to say I may be losing my taste for Pinotage. One of my favorite "serious" reds when I first started drinking wine, I was just looking back at my last couple pinotages and my ratings seem to be dipping. This one one was all sorts of meat when we first opened it. As I recall we related it to a wooly mammoth in a tar pit on a really hot day (after it had maybe stepped on some blackberries). Given about 45 minutes to open up the meatiness gave way to more subtle nuances, but the fruit never quite caught up with everything else. Not bad, but not great either.

...and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open, and show riches
Ready to drop upon me; that, when I waked,
I cried to dream again.

This pinotage is still young and will mature well over 10 years, it’s soft subtle raspberry nose leaving a delicate mocha on the palate.
