Murrieta's Well
Small Lot Livermore Valley Sauvignon Blanc

The wine offers a nose of soft herbal notes and a floral accent, a sort of old-world-new-world combo. On the palate, there is a ton of acidity along with an ocean of salinity. The citrus and mineral flavors linger long after the sip.

Sauv blanc...a varietal so important to Livermore. It was cresta blanca’s sauv blanc/semillon blend that won the grand prize at the exposition of paris in 1889, which consisted of thousands of wines (and was 80+ years before the judgment of paris that made napa so famous). Wente (which owns murrieta’s well) was also the first to label “sauvignon blanc” on an actual sauvignon blanc wine back in the 1930s. They were also the first to label a chard with “chardonnay”.

Compared to last year, this has more white peach flavors. Still grapefruit and citrus there. I know Jennie would like more minerality and acid for her palate. Very clean and fruit forward with nice body from the neutral oak fermentation.

After pouring in the tasting room, always nice to get some sunset while closing up. Robbie likes to trim the canopy and get some nice sun on the sauv blanc clusters for less pyrazine. Not a grassy sauv blanc at all. Little oak little steel. Bigger body and fruit. Rounded. Not sharp.
