Morgado
Rita's Crown Pinot Noir
Big, bold, brash, chewy and very little like a typical pinot. That’s why we love it.

Sep 10th, 2022Opulent sexy nose of candied cherries. Here’s to @Jody Scharf and my made from scratch Beef Wellington!
Huge mid-palate presentation with maple syrup, coffee and cedar. Completely OTT, but we are biased towards this producer, and we love it. Short-term cellaring only.

This wine is huge on the nose, with cedar and maraschino cherries. Consistent palate with broad-shouldered tannins, coupled with a rich mouthfeel. A very contemporary representation of pinot.

Jul 12th, 2020Nothing like a typical pinot. It’s brash and bombastic. We just started a Malaysian curry, and it’s blunted our palates. Nose presents sandalwood and hints of nutmeg. There’s also a freshness to it. Palate is caressing and sexy. For a pinot, it presents an unusual weight and volume. Finishes with power and poise.

Mar 16th, 2019Deep ruby red in appearance. Rich nose with notes of black cherries, spices, black cherries, bark and some minerality. Solid acidity and tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Rich palate with red and black fruit, cinnamon, vanilla and herbs. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2028.

Mar 3rd, 2019Our go-to producer these days is Morgardo. Never disappoints. Very opulent nose of kirsch, overripe cherries and a hint of blueberries.
The palate is intense and delineated. Made us think of melted chocolate in terms of texture. It’s powerful, especially since it tips the scales at 15.3% abv. This is a full-throttle, no holds barred, luscious Cali pinot. Not one for the traditionalists...
BTW, that’s my Parmesan encrusted chicken. Damn I’m good 🙂

We love this expression of pinot. Texture, depth and layers in spades. Cinnamon on the nose and palate, complimented with cassis and dark berry fruits. This is muscular and powerful. Stunning.

Sep 25th, 2016I will probably keep updating my comments as I taste. I exchanged a few correspondence with the Morgado Winery and was encouraged that this wine would be great to drink now...and really appreciated that shipping fee was extremely reasonable! 😉
Initially I was going to wait but given the previous disaster I thought what the heck... be the first to rate the 2016
Huge profile for a Pinot Noir!
A lot of baking spices on the front and midpalatel! Bay leaf...subtle black cherry!
My score is going up...I just noticed the Alcohol...15.1%...absolutely no burn! I just finished a twelve hour shift was beginning to think I was maybe dehydrated (the way this is hitting me)!
To me this wine is highly extracted..different for sure...interested how it would present if I had waited...saving the rest to taste in a few days!
Maybe suggest pairing with food.
Revisiting this wine on day two..massive still! Big on baking spices..bay leaf..Bakers chocolate..wishing I had some Olive Temponade Hummus to pair with this. As @Ron R suggested it is not your typical PN style! I keep searching for fruit that maybe with time? Yet, I am intrigued as this wine is fascinating to explore!
