Every year the pop and pour drinkability of this blend gets better! This year the blend is 60% Mourvedere 25% Grenache and 15% Syrah. My appreciation for the less common primary grape varietals has escalated by Monte de Oro’s wise blending and aging techniques. The nose is slightly shy. The palate is a pleasantly unique balanced combination of fruit and earthy components - with a touch of lingering spice. A near perfect balance of juicy acidity and soft tannins that makes this approachable for most.

Every year is a different adventure for this blend - and this year is also very good. 37% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre. Portions aged in French and oak barrels. Aromatic dark fruit. Smooth black cherry and blackberry with a touch of nutmeg and pepper on the palate. Earth, leather and tobacco on the finish. More fruit forward day 1 and more earthy day 2.

See notes for same blend in 2015 - same profile. One point less for slightly less “pop” but otherwise just as excellent.

Wow...so unique. 40% Grenache 40% Mourvèdre and 20% Syrah. Well balanced with a soft nose, bold but not overwhelming palate with long lingering finish. Smooth combination of Smokey strawberry, cherry, raspberry and a hint of leather. Such a pleasant surprise.

A very different wine. Very tasty. 2 varieties I have almost no experience with in this blend. A bit of a spicy undertone. Cool wine.

Drinking the 2011 in 2017. Deep purple color. Peppery nose with hints of oak. Long lasting legs. Tannic. Lightly smoky flavor with hints of tobacco.

A bit rough up front. High alcohol taste. Opened up a bit after breathing, but not quite enough.
