Monsoon Valley (Siam Winery)
Buddhist Era Blended Red
Hua Hin Hills, Thailand

Monsoon Valley – Red Blend 2021
Hua Hin Hills Vineyard, Thailand 🇹🇭
Overview:
A red wine crafted in tropical Thailand, showcasing the country’s developing viticulture in Hua Hin Hills. Made from international and local grape varieties, the style is unconventional and distinctive, leaning into flavors shaped by the warm monsoon climate.
Aromas & Flavors:
Dominated by raisin and dried fig notes, with a strong streak of black licorice and a slightly funky edge that makes the profile unusual. Hints of stewed fruit and herbal undertones lurk in the background.
Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied, slightly rustic in texture, with flavors that lean toward the oxidative side. The balance tips toward sweetness and dried fruit intensity, leaving a lingering licorice finish.
Food Pairings:
Could be paired with boldly spiced Thai curries, soy-glazed pork, or dishes where the sweetness and funk can play as a counterpoint.
Verdict:
This is not a wine for everyone. Funky, raisiny, and licorice-driven, it feels more like an experimental sip than a balanced pour. Definitely an acquired taste for adventurous palates.
Did You Know?
Thailand’s modern wine industry only took off in the 1990s, with “new latitude wines” produced in areas close to the tropics, such as Hua Hin and Khao Yai. The challenging climate forces winemakers to adopt unique vineyard management techniques, like double cropping and canopy shading.

I must say it was my first Thai wine- paired perfect with Thai food! Lighter bodied- heavier tannins of sweet berries, with a lower alcohol percentage it didn’t bring out the full tannins. Would be a good sipping wine. Light acidity
