I picked up this ‘travellers exclusive’ bottle of Moët & Chandon Reserve Imperial on my recent trip to Auckland. It was about $80 at Duty Free. It’s a Pinot dominant blend (40-50%) and “is the most vinous and mature expression of the Moet & Chandon style. It distinguishes itself by a spicy fruitiness, a vinous palate and a warm maturity”. It’s created from more than 100 different wines, of which 20-30% are reserve wines specially selected to enhance constancy and balance.
- Dosage: 9 g/l
- Maturation in the cellars: 24 months.
- Ageing after disgorgement: 3 months minimum.

I thought it was worth a whirl...

It’s a sparkly gold colour in the glass, much like the star on top of the Xmas tree ⭐️. The nose is savoury and crisp. Think toasted lemon, crackers and spice. In the mouth it has a lovely soft mousse. It’s refined, flavoursome and refreshingly acidic. Enjoyable!

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #sample #tcweekdaywine

Markedly more complex than a standard Moet. Nice toasty notes and slightly nutty, lemony finish
