Barbaresco Nebbiolo
Barbaresco, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy
Wow! This was a fantastic wine! Young, as expected but already showing its depth and beauty. The nose of Nebbiolo is always stunning comparatively to other red varietals. It had very inviting notes of rose petals, smokey cedar, nutmeg, and sweet mulling spiced fruits. 15% alcohol, very dense rich in color and weight, exhibiting notes of smoked dates, grilled meat, cloves, sweet cherries, and an everlasting spiced vanilla finish. It'll see some lovely aging for sure, but it was such a surprise hiding behind that bland white label. 2011 was absolutely stunning. Bravo!

Nice balance in this bottle/vintage. Nice nose, soft tannins but good fruit resembling slightly aged cherries.
