Les Brouillards Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir
17’s from villages or lesser 1er Crus are in the zone now. Wow. Nose has very expressive candied cherries, bubble gum and such clarity. Unreal nose. 9.5 nose. Just stunning. Palate has gorgeous fruit and ripe, substantial and sweet tannins. Lovely persistence and purity. This is showing younger on the palate than the nose but wow this is a stunner. Needs air. But what a wine. I’ll be back as it opens.
9.3 to 9.4 overnight. More integrated and tannins became velvety.

Palate has gorgeous fruit and ripe, substantial and sweet tannins. Lovely persistence and purity. This is showing younger on the palate than the nose but wow this is a stunner. Needs air. Wow. Sweet fruit, elegant and so complex with awesome purity and depth. Sweet and energetic and lovely lift. Beats 19. By a lot. Terrific inner mouth aromas and sweet, crunchy and velvety tannins. Awesome length and structure. Super mineral driven finish. This is tremendous. Let’s see what air does. The wood blows off so quickly! Just so complete. Stunning value here. Extra juicy. Real complexity here. The fruit on this is divine.

Jul 6th, 2022The goods. This is the goods. Gorgeous, haunting nose of flowers, mid season red cherry fruit and spices. This is decidedly red fruited and super pure. Love all the spice, mint and wild herb topnotes as well. Palate is so ethereal and lithe with wonderful purity of fruit and just incredible and engaging freshness. Delicate and slate like tannins and just super juicy and pure. Really well balanced and just a complete package here. So juicy with lovely tiny berry fruit intensity and a slippery feeling. It slips and slides in one’s palate. Very very special. As it airs the spice on the nose gets deafening. This is something. Also a meaty element to the nose and the finish here. Stupid good balance and lovely structure that will ensure 10+ years and surely longer. A fantastically pure bottle of Volnay 1er Cru.

Sep 14th, 2021Superb tiny berry fruit intensity on a slab of stones. Superb mineral perfume. Beautiful mashed dark and light red flowers. Stunningly elegant and precise. Dizzying. I love Volnay. Palate is structured and so deep and initially a bit closed. Complex, stoney, sappy and superbly concentrated. Fruit is there but has a major mineral grip on it like so many 18 1er Crus at this early stage. Clean, compact and precise but really in need of 5 years. Now while 17 was wide open young this will not be. But what a wine. Amazing palate presence. Incredible fruit.

Sep 6th, 2020Nose starts out a bit closed but you can see the perfume. Then roses, ripe cherry fruit, so aromatic. Some hints of citrus skin. Wow. Such a pure and elegant nose. Classic Volnay. As it opens a dizzying perfume is there. Earth, mineral, loam. So so good. Palate is ripe, juicy and substantial. Good fruit and texture, with awesome juiciness and very very fine tannins. Long sweetly fruited finish. Terrific complexity, energy and depth. This is super impressive. It drinks well after 10 minutes as well. Awesome. Superb velvety, ripe and sweet tannins. Terrific inner mouth florals and fruit. Almost a 9.5.

Nose: freshly cut flowers. Cherry flowers. Violets. Hand crushed early midseason cherries. Magnificent. As this opens some swirling spice. Terrific amplitude.
Palate: man. What amazingly fresh cherry juice. Utterly delicious. Some spice. So fresh.
