Michel Gassier
Cercius Vieilles Vignes Côtes du Rhône Syrah Grenache
The Latin name for north-northwest winds is CERCIUS – the defining feature and raison d'etre for partners Michel Gassier, Philippe Cambie and Eric Solomon to launch this new project. A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah, with nice berry and floral aromas. Raspberry & cherry flavors maintain freshness from concrete tanks used during vinification. Fine tannins, medium finish, nice value.

1 person found it helpfulFeb 17th, 2016Light purple in color with a wide purplish rim.
Earthy nose of blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, black pepper, herbs and spices.
Medium bodied with high acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, raspberries, earth, green vegetables, herbs, chocolates, earth, leather, tobacco, forest floor, cola, spices and peppercorn.
Medium plus on the finish, with round tannins and sour cherries.
A very drinkable Côte du Rhône.
A good food wine, but can be had by itself as well. Complex and interesting and well balanced, with a nice mouthfeel.
I had the 2012 vintage before, and liked it better. This vintage is still young and needs a couple of years in the bottle. I paired it with burger and fries, and excellent company, which made it all taste better.
Another venture of Michel Gassier. A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah, from 80 year old vines. Aged for six months in concrete tanks.
15.5% alcohol by volume.

For my taste, a richer, rounder style of CDR, but at the same time not overblown either. And for the price, very good.

May 11th, 2016Pretty tasty little Grenache-dominant CDR...clean, rich and yet nicely balanced. Dark fruits and a judicious amount of wood.

May 7th, 2016Ruby in color with medium intensity and a light wide red rim.
Fruity on the nose with red currants, cherries, strawberries, light oak, licorice, black pepper, earth and minerals.
Medium-bodied with medium acidity and nice legs. Elegant but not smooth yet.
Fruity on the palate with cherries, strawberries, plums, cloves, tobacco, cinnamon, cigar box, dirt, Earth, forest floor, spices and peppercorn.
Medium finish with firm tannins (after 30 minutes) and spices.
This is a nice Côtes du Rhône.
Easy drinking, but needs 1 hour to open up.
I liked it as is, but some bottle time will get the tannins softer and smoother if you like that.
Good by itself or chicken dishes. Complex and interesting.

Cersius Red - Not my thing, but that aside, fruity and rubbery without a whole lot else going on.

Feb 11th, 2015Cooked figs, chocolate & cherry preserves on nose. The figs appear on the palate with some definite heat as well.
