Michael Shaps
Monticello Cabernet Franc

Very well balanced. Slightly herbal/underripe and a bit too much wood. Nonetheless very good quality and honest expression of Virginia.

Feb 22nd, 2023From the super ripe 2007 vintage, very concentrated Franc. Starting to brick a little in 2013 and needs drinking soon.

Pale ruby color. Expressive nose of strawberry, coffee bean, tobacco leaf, cedar, and pleasant floral notes. On the palate, it’s medium bodied with vibrant acidity and medium, dusty tannins. Overall, soft and approachable, yet structured, this wine is drinking well right now and gives more evidence of the emergence of Virginia wine.
