The last of the 3 magnums, this one is the 2016 cab, also from the estate vineyard in Saint Helena.

It’s markedly more powerful than the ‘15. Deep and complex, the aromas and flavors are a revolving door of blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, cedar, dark chocolate, black pepper, thyme, and hint of mineral (iron?). Beautiful acidity and firm elegant tannins. Not as integrated as the ‘15 tonight, but this should age better.

2nd up is the ‘15 cab from estate vineyard in Saint Helena.
Fruit driven that showcases the quality of fruits which is concentrated, intense yet well balanced. Full body, but warm and delicate on the palate. Tannins are noticeably softer than the ‘16. Finish with great length.
When I tasted the ‘12, I thought it was on par with the flagship Profile bottling in terms of quality. This is no exception.

12/2022. Bold and full of flavor. A treat for the palate. Paired well with the rib eye at Hall’s Chophouse.

A mini verticals of Merryvale Napa cab. The 2nd one is 12’ Saint Helena.
Complex and Bordeaux like. Blueberries, blackberries, cedar, fig, cigar box, five spices, and a bit pencil shavings. Medium to full body. Round fresh acidity. Velvety tannins. Elegant.
I think this is as good as the Profile.

It’s always a joy to taste Merryvale Napa cab, but this limited release St Helena bottling is a cut above, a beautiful display of power and finesse. The deep nose is alluring yet restrained, showcasing ripe plum, blackberries, cedar, dates, graphite, anise, and hint of leather. Full body but not heavy. Plush, warm, and slightly candied mouthfeel, with delicious polished tannins.
From Magnum. Aged in 90% new French oak barrel for 22 months. On par with the Profile bottling for about half of the price.
