Very good but a bit candied which is the issue with 18 here. But I liked it.

Drinking so well. So elegant and pure. Wow.

First bottle in over a year. What a nose. Unreal cherries. So clean. Effusive. Bright. Alluring. Lots of dust, crushed rocks and earthiness. So so so pretty. Wow, hyper elegant palate with amazing richness but such a light touch on the back end of the mid palate and the finish. There’s a hit of opulence at the front end of the mid then it gets so scary elegant. What a wine. Elegant tannins and great complexity. Bright red fruits. So lovely. Amazing purity. A 9.35 now. So close to 9.4. Let’s see if air makes it better.

What a nose. Massive fruit. Big, ripe, dark and red cherries. So intense. A lipstick like intensity. Glorious spices. Gorgeous minerality and a sense of deepness. Tree bark, menthol and an inner earth character. The juxtaposition between ripe fruit and minerality is astonishing. Palate is so ripe but allied with just classic and incredible freshness. Big, but ripe and silky tannins and lovely, dense cherry fruit. So balanced and ultra clean and pure. The decadence of this wine allied with the racy minerality is a highlight for me. With air there is a savory and meaty element to the nose that adds complexity. So juicy and textured. The minerals really wash one’s palate on the finish. This has substantial structure which hints to me it needs 3-4 years. It’s in no way not inaccessible now but will be much better in 3 years.

All powdered stones at first, but with air, floral, sappy cherry comes out, with a sweet spice note. Light in weight but with good intensity, it’s a leaner styled Pinot, with bright mineral-tinged flavors and nice acidity. Great with simple roast chicken.

This is the apogee of Red Riesling. Red wedding. Billy Idol would be impressed. Red cherries. Sour cherries. Bergamot. Red currents. Spice and engaging herbaciousness. Just so transparent and nimble. Loads of earthiness and dust. So complex and alive. Hint of citrus rind. Gorgeous. Palate is so juicy, energetic and engaging. Omg this is red Riesling on the palate like nothing else. So pure. So transparent. Fruit had a hint of sweetness but it’s awash in minerality. So complete and balanced. Just zen on the palate. It’s so complex, yet so so delicious and just incredible drinkable with dynamic freshness and wonderful energy and length. Lithe tannins that are so refined.

Glorious showing. As this ages if reminds me more and more of Möbitz. Gorgeous nose of crushed berries, spices, raspberry cake, mineral, limestone, sour cherry. Just dizzying. What a nose. So delicate and transparent. Palate is pitch perfect Red Riesling. So juicy and transparent with wonderful freshness and purity. Sour cherry, red berry, red cherry fruit. Terrific inner mouth aromas. So complex and juicy with just unreal energy and freshness. Amazingly linear and just straight as an arrow. Outrageous value. Terrific sweetness of fruit but just so perfectly judged.

Best Spatburgunder I’ve ever had. Period. Wow.

Super high toned. The first cherries of the season, some raspberry, spice, slight iron. It walks around like a boy trying not to step on the cracks. It would be green if it weren’t super red. It’s like listening to some super tense modal jazz-folk act, the best of pentangle doing their soul thing. This is what vin de soif wishes it could be on its birthday. Some cayenne pepper and mace and confectioners sugar on the finish. It grows in density in the glass but never really sits down. Very alive. Everything is easy and promising like when you meet a person you think will be a new friend. Delicious.
