Rocche dell'Annunziata Barolo Nebbiolo

Been holding this one for 8 years. Worth the wait! Maiden voyage with the Coravin.

Thought I'd update a few notes of wines from my Christmas list while sick in bed.

I've come to the conclusion, based on experimentation, that it takes 6 hours exactly to let a younger Barolo like this finally open up. Instead of herbaceous qualities, you get more fruit concentration and sweet cherry at the core, with beautiful rose water floral notes, game, subtle note of tar (though would show more in years to come) and a light touch of rosemary. The tannins were well integrated and softened by this point, leaving a wine that was powerfully balanced. This wine made a lovely duck pairing. 2009 will drink now, through 2027 easily.

Tar and rose petals, as I would expect. Tightly wound and needs time in the cellar, great potential.

It’s not all about the big names or so called high end wines. It’s about how a wine tast in the glass, this wine does taste very well after 19 years in the bottle. It’s nice and soft with some ripe red fruits. Just a lovely bottle of Barolo 😋

Last vintage until 2022. Smallest production. Most known. Longest to evolve. Tasting days with low pressure are not good

Light fragrance. Drinks smoothly and is medium bodied...dry with light fruit and black pepper. Very drinkable. Notes of dark cherry and stone fruit flavors. $84 from Total Wines and More.

Let this one breathe! It needs time. Rose, cherries, oak on the nose. Complex palette with a bunch of tannins. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Loved it. Would buy more.

Intense ruby red coloured, fresh to the nose with mature fruits; prunes and blueberries, licorice and notes of aromatic herbs like eucalyptus. The evident tannin and harmony confirm the grand character that is undeniably the terroir of Monforte.

Should have given this much more time.
