Dark Ruby red in colour. Aromas of dark cherries and pipe tobacco. On the palate dried cherry - ultra savoury. My local club, The Downs Club, is doing takeaways on Wednesday and Friday nights these days. Hope they do it more often on the quality of the Chicken Cacciatore we had tonight. Went into my Wine App - Personal Wine Curator and was surprised that Primitivo was a good match - and so it was. Barb loved it. Excellent meal, excellent wine.

Initial impressions of ripe savoury characters even somewhat grapey. Like most Italian varietals made to go with food. Not as full bodied and sweet as some Primitivos I have had. @Jeff Savigny gave me this idea where he recently matched a Pizza with Zinfandel so I thought I would do the same with Primitivo from Puglia in Italy, which is the same grape. It was a great match with homemade Pizza. The wine giving a tarry earthy undertow throughout. POSTSCRIPT Points off for a ridiculously heavy bottle. You could do Curls with the empty bottle.

Bellissimo! What a stunner! Caught me off guard as I’ve had several wines from this producer - this was a whole other level (exceptional vintage): inky really inky and right out of the bottle tons of blackberry compote, plum pudding all drenched in sweet spice cake. Liqueur/macerated fruit, gobs of black fruit & hint of black pepper. On the palate it was gorgeous, full rich smooth luxurious echoing nose and just to generous thru finish. At $18 this QPR is insane.

Of the handful of times I’ve had one, I have yet to drink a Primitivo I really enjoyed, but this was too sweet to stomach. One for the kitchen sink, unfortunately.
