Moist leather, dark red fruits, light tannins, immediately approachable. Everything you can want in a cheap restaurant red. Paired to Veal Florentina.

The 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Campolongo di Torbe holds your attention firm, with a deeply alluring bouquet of rum-soaked raisins, cinnamon, cherry liquor, minty herbs and a dusting of cocoa. It’s silky in texture and more feminine and lifted than expected, with a tart display of red and black fruits further complicated by notes of bitter coffee and dark, dark chocolate. The balance here is on point, as the 2011 comes across as more savory and sweet, and tapers off to notes of blackberry, sour citrus and inner rose tones. While you can enjoy this today, the Campolongo di Torbe will benefit from another five to ten years of cellaring.(Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2021)

Medium bright ruby colour seems to have lots of youthful energy. Light pleasant aroma of sour cherry, raisin, celery and wet leaves. Dry on the palate with medium body and smooth tannin supporting the lively acidity and minerality. More flavours of sour cherry and raisin on the palate, not too strong and not too light. It is a pleasantly elegant wine to drink in the now.

Second Tasting of the same bottle: interestingly, the aroma became dominated by oaky vanilla with underlying sour cherry blackberry blueberry and prune. Somehow all the elements came together overnight and made it more balanced and layered. It is still elegant but has more depth than first opened. Perhaps I should have aerated it a bit longer before drinking.
