Salanques Priorat Garnacha Blend
Salanques: Poured into a decanter several hours prior and returned to the bottle just before dinner. The 2007 “Salanques” pours, a deep garnet color with a near opaque, core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and slightly desiccated red and dark fruits, red cherries, blackberries, dried red flowers, well-oiled leather, rocky minerals, light baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (that is mostly integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Showing remarkable elegance; this is a delicious, gorgeous Priorat that is currently firing on all cylinders. A lovely pairing with paella a variety of traditional Spanish tapas. Drink now and over the next 10 years.

Aug 31st, 2024Yes please. This is the garnacha for CA cab drinkers. Yes. Weak at the knees makes me bend in ways I didn’t know. Ok there too. Another pour? Big fruity and juicy. Squeeze it baby squeeze.

Oct 5th, 2018The challenge of the 2006 vintages tonight. Spain versus USA in imaginary World Cup fashion. This Priorat held the initial lead with its deep purple color, black currant fruit, nice complexity and a light Spanish spice. Seems like it is in a good spot to consume now, but still had structure that could take it another 10 years.

Jan 13th, 2018Dammit. Like, damn why is this wine so fun, friendly, interesting and beautiful? It’s like when you meet a famous person and they are as marvelous as the press makes them out to be. Very much into this. Deep purple (goth Ellen like), very rich (hedonist Ellen turned on), very spicy (living vicariously Ellen clings to) and balanced (Virgo Ellen makes checkmark in wine planner) and very I want more in my glass. All hail Priorat.
