Marqués de Murrieta
Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial Rioja Tempranillo Blend
Maybe in a bit of a "down" phase. Appeals very dark & a bit unapproachable. Missing the subtle power & length of the 89 and the depth of fruit the 2001 provides. Let it sleep.

Nov 19th, 2016Still relatively deep ruby core the rim is changing to a more garnet tinge, more watery also. Quite aromatic , more herbal and developed . Then there is a fig note, tea like notes also. Strawberry compote on the palate, elegant sweet fruit. The finish is slightly shorter than the others , alcohol more evident . Acid is quite refreshing. A toffee note , quite confected . Acidity does seem quite angular and the finish lacks the complexity of other vintages . After coming back there is also an a burnt rubber note on the nose.
