The Dissident Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
For International Merlot day I'm going with a Bordeaux blend from Columbia Valley.
Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.
Soft nose of blueberries, plums, wood, licorice, oak, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, vinaigrette, forest floor, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite, bitter herbs, black tea and black pepper.
Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, green herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, vegetables, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries.
This is a nice surprise. A great Bordeaux Blend from Washington State. Well balanced and earthy with a nice mouthfeel and a tangy ending, that I really liked.
Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (90 minutes).
Might have been better a year or two ago, even though, this was a great vintage and it's showing great complexity.
Thank you Scott for sharing.
I paired it with cheeses, meats and light appetizers.
A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 12% Malbec, 11% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
A production of 95 barrels.
14.9% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
$35.

Dec 3rd, 2015The 2013 Dissident has a deep, dark and inky color profile reflecting the wine’s depth and power. The aromatic profile begins with a combination of rich black cherries, clove and black currant. Secondary aromas of cedar, tobacco, cocoa powder and bay leaf complete the wine. The palate offers a rich and supple attack supported by flavors of cherry and plum with a hint of vanilla from the new French oak. The wine transitions into a powerful finish with graceful tannin and balanced acidity.
