Superb bottle of Vaucrains, wish I'd bought more than the one bottle. Total production of 613 bottles from vines planted in 1956 per the back label. The Burghound note called the tannins "rustic" and "no model of refinement." Ooops! This is a picture-perfect model of refinement with velvety tannins woven seamlessly into super-refined fruit with slender, even feminine proportions. The Vaucrains signature is the mineral element that doesn't emerge until it's been open for a few hours, but gradually the primary fruit segues to stone and metal shavings while the texture remains accessible and open-knit. The taste is very reminiscent of some older Vaucrains I've had but the physical stuff is so much more friendly and elegant than usual. Sorry, Burghound. This was so easy to drink and 750ml wasn't enough. Really a superb take on the vineyard.
