Vin du Bugey Mondeuse Noir

Very happy to try this unusual alpine grape. Aroma presents straightforwardly fruity at first, with notes of cranberry and wild raspberry, but with time develops some mineral funk, some gamey/muskiness, and some vegetal characteristics. Medium tannins, medium+ juicy acidity. For me, this sits somewhere between a Cru Beaujolais and a Loire Cab Franc. Nice!

Peppery, floral, herbal, with roses, violets, juniper and thyme. Reminds a little of Ruche. Beautiful little Alpine wine.

Cheap thrills

My first (I believe) Mondeuse. Fresh, crunchy red fruits, firm acidity and nice spice. A pleasant, affordable ($13) departure from the everyday

High altitude red. Bright red fruits and good acidity. An easy drinker and new region for me.

Fun! Peppery!

A delicious surprise. Red and black crunchy fruits and nice acids. St. Laurent on steroids.

Lots of licorice and black cherries...a bit tannic but interesting and enjoyable!

A bit thin, but nicely drinkable Mondeuse.

Smells like Syrah, tastes like a simple Pinot. New variety for me. Quite good.
