Madonna Nera
Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese
Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, Italy

Silky smooth, ruby red, clear see-through; tar, violets, white flowers, and dried cherries on the nose; polished tannins, elegant rather than powerful, beautiful balance, with subtle red fruit and spice; refined, lingering finish wothout anything ”sticking out”. Classic 2013?!

Orange peel and tar, this is light to midweight Brunello is quite satisfying to drink now. Needed a short while to open up to be tasty, if uncomplicated, and perfectly acceptable for a low key night in. The 2010 vintage is so good for Brunello. This wine probably speaks to the fact that any bottle from that year will be perfectly acceptable.

Bountiful and fruity bouquet of orange and spice. On the palette - strawberries and ripe cherries, tobacco and pepper. Amazing legs, supple tannins and a smooth finish!! Leave it to those Italians!!

Mar 6th, 2025Great time with the winemakers Benedetta and Mario at their vineyard. The 2015 is going to be great in 2020 or 2025. This is the "dad" of the three wines they make at this family owned micro vigneto (13000 bottles /year)

Jun 28th, 2017Benedetta knows how to make a great wine. This comes from a tiny family owned estate on the east side of the hill in Montalcino. Benedetta's father worked these vines for years before he saved up to buy them. They only make 13,000 bottles / year I believe. Think of their Super Tuscan starter /first course wine, the Rossi as the brother, and their Brunello as the "dad". Buy this bottle.
