Definitely over the hill, but interesting none the less. New oak still prevalent, tannin fully resolved, old raisiny aged quality has taken over, decayed red pepper. I'm not going to rate this because it's a shadow of it's former self, but still a very interesting exercise in aging California.

2006. When my wife and I got married 30 years ago this week, we catered our small reception and bought a case of the 1987 Lyeth Meritage to serve. We liked it, and appreciated the reasonable price as we were just starting our first “real” jobs. My wife saw this bottle at a liquor store 10+ years ago and picked it up for sentimental reasons. This bottle was showing a little lightening of the rim but the aromas were bright cherry with no aged notes. A thinner body, but still had some smooth tannins on the finish. We really enjoyed it with a ribeye, mushrooms, and great memories!

Enjoying the 1987. Think this was the last vintage before the brand was sold.
