Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d'Alba

A bit much. Not elegant but super intense and almost seemed young. Only 13% but felt like more.

The 2017 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore is bright, fruity and absolutely delicious. The warm vintage seems to have given the Valmaggiore an extra kick of mid-palate sweetness, which is not a bad thing for a wine that can at times be a bit lean. Sweet red berry fruit and floral notes are nicely pushed forward. The 2017 will benefit from a few years in bottle, which will allow the aromatics to develop, but it is impeccable in its balance and super-classy, even in the early going. A lesser Cuvée from a quality producer. Vanilla Oak aromas initially after decanting which blew off to reveal savoury red fruits. Medium bodied with traces of bitterness. Very fine dusty tannins. Drinking well now. Went well with pork chops.

Aug 21st, 2018Pretty nose with good character and intensity. Roses, licorice, and red and black fruit. Palate was dull compared to nose. Ripe fruit with some energy. Tannins were slightly bitter. Short finish. #sandrone #langhe #nebbiolo #ctbucklinwine
