Almost pitch black in colour which is surprising considering this Port is 62 years old and the oldest Australian wine I had in my cellar. Back when Australia had the imperial system this is 1 pint and 6 fluid ounces. This is rancio sweet with Fruit Cake/Plum Pudding and notes of Liquorice and old leather and Tar. Medium to full bodied, complex, supple and loooong! Absolutely amazing as one might expect from an iconic Australian Port. Thanks to wife Barbie for letting me drink her Christmas Present with the family.

If everything from 1957 presents like this handsome, complex little number, I need to start dating older men. Gooey baked chocolate cake, stewed pears and a little nutmeg on the nose. A few wafts of rain soaked bitumen (which is always pleasant), but that may just be my snout. Palate filled with more of the same; slight tingle and spice being the age it is. Slinky, velvety and a total mouth pleaser. I’m ready to be teleported to the mid 20th century.
