Tonight to start the Fathers Day weekend off I have opened the 2013 Leviathan California Red Blend. 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Syrah, 24% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. This is the 10th Anniversary wine from Andy Erickson the former winemaker of Screaming Eagle.
The nose is very expressive with notes of black cherry, blackberry jam, boysenberry, black currant, chocolate, pencil shavings, herbs and mint.
On the palate there is jammy dark fruit, black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, black currant, allspice, herbs, graphite and earth.
This is a full bodied wine with medium + acidity and medium + grippy chewy tannins that lead to a long fruit driven finish. Enjoy your Fathers Day weekend and do it safely. Nostrovia. 🍷🍷🍷🍷

A wonderful Boudreaux blend From Napa Valley. Dominant black cherry throughout the journey with hints of cigar cedar box and licorice. Long smooth finish. Definitely worthy of a cellar collectible.

Mostly Cab Sav with Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. Big structure and aggressive tannins. Big dark fruit. Calls for a big, meaty 🥩 food pairing for sure.

Blackberry jam, sweet wood, black rocks. Dense and vinous. Persistent tannins with a certain level of finesse to them given their intensity.

Make sure you decant at least 2 hours!!! I didn’t heed the advice of others and it came out over oaked with lots of vanilla. First few glasses reminded me of the wines we had in Spain and Portugal, which weren’t bad at all, but not cabs from Napa. After a few hours this turns into a smooth, dusty Cab; which has elegance and power. I’ll buy another and drink properly!
