Good southern French Pinot. Bright red fruit, cherry, hint of spice on finish; label also says black currant and hint of vanilla. Good wine for under $20.

Freshly squeezed lemon juice greets the tip of my tongue with a little kiss. As the wine spreads over my tongue I taste the earth that grew the lemons and it offers me a story.

Once upon a time a strawberry and a cranberry had a baby.

The baby sweet and lovely fell asleep on the back of my tongue.

But the strawberry stepped out on the cranberry. While strawberry and blueberry were talking and laughing blueberry fell over and spilled his sweet blueberry blood down the sides of my tongue.

I listen to the earths story and as I swallow it's almost like it never happened. Like it was a dream and only the hint of zest wandering like a ghost on my breath leaves any evidence that it ever happened.

Then I had a bite of steak and the wine tasted like carob.

As I near the end of the bottle I am left with a reduction of berries and a hint of clove.
