Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend
Chianti Classico, Chianti, Tuscany, Italy

Another winner from this producer. Lively pure, deep cherry leaps out of the glass, with a sprinkling of crushed rock and spice. Great acids (surprisingly for a ‘20) and lively, medium-bodied flavors. With air, the flavors are deepening. Still some youthful-feeling fine tannin. So good on a summer evening with take-out Detroit style pizza right now, but no rush to drink this.

This is loaded with character. Nose is intense with violets, intense macerated cherry, gravel, and old chestnut casks (I have no idea what wood this may have been aged in). In the mouth, it’s full-flavored but not heavy, with a whack of crunchy dark cherry followed by loads of savory mineral notes. Good acids, alcohol in check at 13.5, bone dry, and with some tannin still to shed. Very nice!

Jul 16th, 2022Nice little Classico from practicing organic vineyards. Doesn’t see any wood, so this is pretty and light, with red cherry and flowers, a ton of soil and mineral character. Slightly bitter, drying finish. At this age, the wine feels like it’s getting a bit tired and fading. Still has some grip though which makes it still a good choice for simple rustic fare at the table. Morel and ham pizza leftovers for me tonight.

Very old school. Tons of intense earthy sour cherry. Nice acidity. Some soft tannin in the finish. So nice with chicken cacciatore.

Old school Chianti Classico. Lithe, a little racy, red fruit and wild flowers. Great food wine. 😍

Terrific old school (except a bit less acid than the old days before global warming). Funky and earthy, winey cherries out the ying yang. Almost like an old-school “governo method” wine. Minerally and pure tasting. Nice length. Great meal Chianti.

A very nice Chianti. I definitely would serve this with a census taker and some fava beans.
