Le Rocher des Violettes (Xavier Weisskopf)
Touche-Mitaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Chenin Blanc

First time drinking Xavier’s wines and I’m really impressed. Stone fruit, apricot, peach, pineapple, white flowers...and continues to open with air and comes up to temp. Really delicious and reminds me a bit of Sandlands Chenin.

Drinks similarly to a dry Riesling with the lemon lift and the lasting acidity. Pleasant!

Very concentrated and even a bit of extract - but still very pure, and racy. Muted and mostly mineral upon opening but just a few minutes of air brings out the spice and fruit (with some surprising tropical notes). High intensity and length for a $25 retail. Maybe not the most refined at this stage but could reward further aging

Chenin with a few years on it? Yes please! Herbal, savory, with a hint of citrus and a lot of acidity. Ever so slightly oxidized. Pretty cool stuff.

I've enjoyed the off-dry wines from Weiskopf but this dry one tasted more like Chablis than Chenin. Not that that's a bad thing considering the price!
