This is exactly what I want in a Ripasso. The freshness and purity of ripe Corvina and other grapes, with a little assist from the Amarone pomace to add a little dried fruit complexity and richness and structure. Ripassos can so easily be simple and cloying and too big or sweet. This avoids all those pitfalls. Such a good pasta wine.

So talkative in the dried fruit realm—prunes, figs, dried cranberry and figs. The palate has a super texture, slightly grabby tannins but in the way you want to be grabbed, like at the end of a hug on a really good first date. GRAB ME tannins! These do, but politely, and you want them to because they are fine-grained if assertive. The dried fruit plays nicely with cocoa powder and freeze-dried espresso granules (smell them, you’ll see). REALLY good. It grows more herbal with time, too.

I’ve had other vintages of this that I preferred more - good, but not great.

A classic ripasso, the way they should be. Good 18 dollar entertaining wine.

Pleasing red fruit, nice balance medium to light bodied red. An interesting musty quality looms above a would-be non-memorable wine. The tannin is light but gripping an it opens to some dried fruit and herbal qualities in the mouth.

Medium body and quite complex - not bad for a baby Amarone.
