This was very tight & not showing much when 1st opened yesterday. I poured it back in the btl and served it tonight. Much more open showing dark cherry & plum with earth, tobacco, elegant & floral with polished tannins that still needs more time before reaching maturity.

2001 Le Macchiole Messorio Merlot. Compared this wine to the '01 Casanova di Neri Cerretalto Brunello Sangiovese at the lunch which Ash prepared at the house. By a small margin, this wine was our fave of the two. Sweet fruit on the nose, but balanced, and a nice mouthfeel with a pleasant amount of tannins. We really enjoyed how balanced and delicious this wine was.
