This inky, Merlot-dominant blend is a full-on Goth wine: dark currants, dark cherries, dark blueberries…

The oak is restrained and the jamminess is less than in recent releases. A bit of decanting helps to reduce the jam factor a lot.

I’m still not completely sold on the “new and improved” Langtry wine style, but I see this as a solid step in the right direction, perhaps someday restoring Old Soldier Road to its former greatness.

This vintage of this normally superlative Bordeaux blend is a bit disappointing. While it has all the great mocha cherry flavors one would expect from this blend, the tannic structure is a bit overdone, with the yeasty thickness of liquid bread.

This Bordeaux style blend is not quite as big a wine as prior vintages, but has brighter acidity and nice mineral tannins. The dominant flavors are Bing cherry and blueberry, with a thick finish. It was a great complement to cumin seared steak salad.

While this blend has traditionally been a Bordeaux blend, this vintage has more jamminess and acidity, almost as if there were some Zinfandel in the mix. It is a bit of a disappointment compared to the stellar prior releases but still a good wine.
