Lake's Folly
Hunter Valley Cabernets
Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia

One doesnโt normally associate top flight Cabernet with the Hunter Valley but Lakes Folly , founded by ex surgeon Dr Max Lake (now past) turned that notion on its head and has been making top flight Cabernets for decades. This wine has strong mint aromas with some spice. Red fruited. Would stump a lot of tasters in a blind tasting as to its origins. If anyone can do Cabernets in the Hunter Valley it would be Lakes Folly.

Very nice sip
A good amount of oak influence that tends to disappear with decanting
Long after taste
Good raspberry freshness
Leathery, cinnamon, earthy
Altogether still in good shape
No sediments at all
Not rush to open it

Palate definitely better than the nose
Oaky on the nose, but very fresh and easy drinking.

At least other 10 years easy

Always great to open an old bottle
It needed time to open up
It just tells me again that alcohol is not necessary

Long, nice drop
I'd buy more
1983 was better to my palate though ๐

Lovely Hunter Bordeaux blend. Deep rich blackberry fruit and cedary oak. Looks stunning at 13yo

Still finishing off tasting notes from Cab tasting back in May. A blend from the brilliant 2014 vintage in the Hunter Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon 61% with Shiraz and Petit Verdot. Gorgeous perfume with typical Hunter earthiness. Light to medium weight but M+ Intensity. Hunter Valley at its best.
